To Know Christ and Make Him Known
Looking at John 8:31-36 31 Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, “If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 “We are descendants of Abraham,” they replied, “and have never been anyone’s slaves! How can you say, ‘You will become free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “I tell you the solemn truth, everyone who practices sin is a slave of sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the family forever, but the son remains forever.36 So if the son sets you free, you will be really free.
This last week I heard a song on the radio that made me think of this passage and what it means to bet really free. Notice the challenge Christ gives to the Judeans who had believed, “continue to follow my teaching”. If they did that then the result would be knowing the truth and then that truth setting them free. In verse 36 we see that the freedom that comes from following Christ’s teaching is is REAL freedom.
We have freedom in Christ. The song I referenced is Josh Baldwin’s Let The Redeemed. If you look at that video with the lyrics notice how the song starts.
“Led me out of the desert, brought me into his streams
River of living water, turned my bitter into sweet.
What a great reminder of our freedom in Christ.
